The State Fisheries Committee of the Russian Federation

The State Fisheries Committee of the Russian Federation is represented in USA by Mr. Vladimir Shevlyakov, the Attache on Fisheries with the Embassy of the Russian Federation in USA.

The principal task of the Representation is to ensure implementation of the provisions of the Inter-Governmental agreements between Russia and USA in the field of fisheries, as well as implementation of a number of International conventions on protection and management of fish resources of the sea, to which both Russia and USA are the parties.

The basis for the bilateral relations in the field of commercial fishing is as follows:

Inter-Governmental Agreements on

• Mutual relations in the field of commercial fishing, dated 31 of May, 1988
• Protection of transboarder fish resources in the central part of the Okhotsk Sea, dated 13 June 1996
• Restriction of Pacific salmon commercial fishing, dated 3 September/27 August 1992

The directives for mutual cooperation between the two countries in protecting and monitoring biological resources of the sea are elaborated in compliance with the decisions adopted by the Parties in the course of annual sessions of the Inter-Governmental Consultative Committee, established within the framework of the 1988 Agreement (see above)
